my name is sydney berkeley, and I am a potter, illustrator, and plant lover. I am currently an undergraduate student at Maine College of Art pursuing my BFA in ceramics. illustrating on ceramics is something that makes me happy, and I believe I can share this happiness with others through my work.

artist biography
Sydney Berkeley, originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is currently pursuing her BFA in Ceramics at Maine College of Art & Design and expected to graduate in 2022. She plans to move to Burlington, Vermont after graduation to explore her artistic endeavors there. Her work has been featured in several exhibitions including the GATHER Exhibition at the University Hall Gallery at UMass Boston in 2021, and she received an Honorable Mention from Maine College of Art & Design’s 2020 BFA Merit Exhibition.

As an illustrator and ceramic artist, Berkeley aims to create fun narrative scenes that feel strange or nostalgic. She always is motivated by the idea of allowing her audience to experience comfort from her work, just as she does while making it. By creating both functional vessels decorated with colorful - and usually nonsensical - characters, as well as sculptures that depict these characters enjoying childlike activities, Berkeley’s work speaks to all ages and encourages the viewer to appreciate the vibrancy of life.
